Thames Gateway Sustainable Residential Development

A new residential development in the Thames Gateway, UK.

A proposal for the development of an existing small town to extend its high street, provide over 200 new dwellings and relocate the local school.

The strategy behind the design was to provide flexible residential accommodation that could be converted from large single dwellings to multiple apartments with minimal effort. Environmental and social sustainability featured high on the agenda resulting in the selection of glulam timber framing, timber cladding, lime render, on-site energy production, active street frontages and pedestrian orientated streets. Lifetime Homes and Code for Sustainable Homes were used as benchmarks for evaluating the design.
